Our Work
Overview

Mama LLC partners with humanitarian and professional organizations, educational institutions, and for-profit entities to meet maternal and women’s health needs. As a social enterprise, our consulting firm assists partners both in addressing these concerns at a population level and in scaling efforts to improve the lives of women and girls.

Renovia Inc.
Mama LLC provides strategic consulting for Renovia, Inc., a biomedical industry focused on diagnostic and treatment innovations for female pelvic floor disorders. Our work informs advancements in product development, patient & consumer education and digital health technology.

Women’s Health and Human Rights
Mama LLC advocates for women’s health concerns by promoting a human rights-based approach to health care delivery and research. We have developed a 1-credit hour course for Andrews University’s doctoral physical therapy program, as well as offer related workshops and presentations, including continuing professional education.

Women leaders in global health

Through clinical education and mentorship, we work to build capacity for health and rehabilitation services for women with a specific focus on maternal health conditions, pelvic floor disorders, and survivors of sexual violence

Panzi Hospital and Foundations
Our engagement with Panzi Hospital and Foundations is far-reaching and includes:

  • Clinical education and mentorship for doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, social workers and community health workers
  • Research consulting to inform clinical care, to raise awareness and financial support, and to measure impact of hospital and community initiatives
  • Informing hospital systems to improve efficiency of referrals, documentation, data collection and clinical care pathways
  • Advocacy

EngenderHealth
Since 2013 we have worked with EngenderHealth and the USAID-sponsored Fistula Care Plus project to build capacity for women’s health physiotherapy services at partner sites providing maternity care. This has included:

  • Field work in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Nigeria
  • Related research and presentations at international conferences
  • Development of the open-access training guide for health workers

Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda & University of California, San Francisco
Since 2019, we have collaborated with the research and clinical teams to execute the intervention pilot: Comprehensive Reintegration Assistance for Women with Female Genital Fistula. Our work informs clinical education, physiotherapy-informed intervention planning, and data collection. In light of the Covid-19 pandemic, on-site training was halted, and in January 2021 we initiated virtual skills training for a small team of physiotherapists in Uganda.

World Physiotherapy SUDA Project
The SUDA project was a collaboration between World Physiotherapy, Humanity & Inclusion, and USAID to strengthen physiotherapy services in the West African nations of Niger, Mali and Senegal. In November 2017, we participated in a regional conference to provide expertise and training to over 100 physiotherapists on the topics of obstetric fistula, pelvic floor disorders and maternal health.
