Mama

Mama, LLC partners with humanitarian and professional organizations, educational institutions and for-profit entities to meet maternal and women's health needs. As a social enterprise, our consulting firm assists partners both in addressing these concerns at a population level and in scaling efforts to improve the lives of women and girls, both in the U.S. and internationally. Our work includes education, physical therapy capacity building, research, health promotion and advocacy from a health and human rights framework.

Jessica L. McKinney, PT, MS has 20 years of career experience as a women's health care provider (Physical Therapist), educator & advocate with current roles as Vice President at a women's digital health company (Renovia, Inc.), adjunct university faculty (Andrews University), and consultant in global/community women's health (Mama, LLC). Her career has included over 10 years as faculty in a Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (FPMRS; Urogynecology) fellowship program and mentorship of physical therapy students and early-career professionals.

Recent relevant work includes co-authoring an open-access training manual on physiotherapy care for reproductive morbidities in low-resource settings and programmatic and research support in global health and development. Key strengths are in the areas of education, public speaking, obstetric fistula and related maternal morbidities (clinical care and current literature), and digital health.

Ms. McKinney is skilled in public speaking, literature search and synthesis, clinical rehabilitation, academic and patient-focused writing. She has presented on obstetric fistula, reproductive morbidities, gender-based violence, and health and human rights at numerous national and international meetings and has related publications forthcoming.

Ms. McKinney received her Master’s in Physical Therapy from Virginia Commonwealth University and is currently a doctoral candidate at Andrews University’s DScPT program with a concentration in women’s health.

Laura Keyser, DPT, MP

Laura Keyser, DPT, MPH is a physical therapist and independent public health consultant with clinical expertise in women’s & pelvic health and child health & development and 10+ years of experience. She is a seasoned researcher, writer, speaker, & educator with special interest in reducing health disparities, improving population-level health literacy, advocating for gender equity and human rights.

Dr. Keyser has international experience in health care capacity building in India and multiple countries across Africa. She has published and lectured on her work in global health and community-based care and consulted with local and international organizations, including Global Strategies, EngenderHealth, USAID, Harvard Humanitarian Initiative, HEAL Africa, and Panzi Hospital & Foundations.

In 2017, Dr. Keyser co-founded Mama LLC, a consulting firm with expertise in women’s health and development. As part of USAID’s Fistula Care Plus project, she co-authored an open-access field guide aimed at improving women’s and pelvic health education of health care workers worldwide. Currently, she oversees related translation, dissemination, and monitoring and evaluation efforts. Dr. Keyser also provides clinical and research support to Renovia Inc, a women’s health company with a digital health platform focused on diagnostic and therapeutic innovations for female pelvic floor disorders.

Dr. Keyser received her Master’s and Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of California, San Francisco and completed her Master’s in Public Health from the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health.
